I originally posted this last year–but it’s too good to disappear into the archives, so I’m sharing it again today! Enjoy!
Happy Winter, everyone!
I decided to forego my usual rambly post today and instead to give you a gift. Normally I love handing out cookies, but since I can’t give everyone cookies, I decided to do the next best thing: share a recipe!
The recipe below is the one I have used for years for my sugar cookies. I originally found it in an old Betty Crocker cookbook, but it’s been adjusted since then (the index card I wrote the recipe out on is probably older than both Frankie and William combined!). Feel free to save this image:
One note I should make: my friends sometimes accuse me of “following the spirits of my ancestors” while cooking rather than actually following a recipe. I do follow this recipe pretty carefully, but . . . I also don’t. 😉 I never actually measure how thick the cookies are (do people really do that?). I don’t often measure the flavoring as I put it in (can you ever really have too much vanilla? [um, yes, you can]). All that to say, if you decide to use this recipe, make it your own! Perfection may not be guaranteed, but fun can be. Experiment! Red would be proud. 😀
