Instead of the usual Fun Fact (or research-based rant), this week I have great news to share:
My short story “The Alchemical Godmother” is going to be in Dragon Soul Press’s Timeless 2 anthology!
(The cover for the anthology is this week’s featured image, which email subscribers might have to go to the website to see!)
I am so excited about this! Can you tell? 🙂 Dragon Soul Press (DSP) has been lovely to work with so far. They publish many interesting anthologies (check them out here — preordering isn’t up for the Timeless anthology yet, but you look at the other books!). The theme of Timeless is fairy tale retellings.
So, what’s “The Alchemical Godmother” about? It doesn’t roll off the tongue the way “fairy godmother” does, I admit. But that’s the idea: alchemist Red (a familiar character to those who’ve read the Carousel Capers or holiday shorts available here) agrees to solve the “mystery” of a missing family heirloom, and finds herself playing the part of reluctant godmother to a very determined “Cinderella.” It’s a loose twist on the original tale, told from a new perspective.
It’s also the second story I ever wrote with Red and her friends (well . . . it’s that story plus a lot of edits!) so it takes place before the Carousel series. Luca, William, and Officer Thorn all have their parts to play. 🙂
Funnily enough, DSP has another anthology themed around dragons and heroines, to which I was planning to submit a story I wrote about a very different character called Midnight. I actually thought I’d have a better chance with those characters and that theme than with fairy tale retellings. But we won’t tell Red and her friends that. 😉
Here’s hoping everyone has a wonderful weekend!
