Over on Substack, I’ve started a new tradition of sharing a permission slip each month.

Why “permission”? What’s it all about? To explain, I have to tell you a story (I know, so surprising, coming from me!). This time last year, I was in the midst of my own “rapid release season”–basically, putting out several books in a row and doing lots of work. I’d planned it ahead of time, so I knew that all that work–and lots of anxiety with it–was coming. I knew it’d be easy to get caught up in to-do lists and shoulds and worries. So what did I do?

I planned ahead! 😉

I created a series of “permission slips” in Canva, and even set up a special email account. I scheduled out a series of emails to send these permission slips to myself, one each Friday, during release season and beyond. It may sound a little silly or over-the-top, but honestly, it was such a spot of brightness in each week. It almost didn’t matter what the permission slip actually said. The biggest benefit was remembering that, for as much as I cared about goals and books, I cared about me, too.

So, it’s one year later and those permission slips have been burning a hole in my Google archive. That’s why I decided to share them with the world! This is part of my Substack adventure: once a month, I’m sharing one of the images and challenging myself–as well as my readers–to give it a go.

Here’s this month’s:

In the future, if I’m too busy talking book business here on the blog, you’ll be able to find more monthly permission on Substack. 😉 Enjoy!

Psst! Could you use a little help?

I’ve added coaching, research assistance, and classes to my offerings! Check out my author services and group workshops. It may be a tough, dark world out there, but together we can share some light.
