In honor of the release of Cold as Snow this month, I’m letting the characters take over the blog. Today’s post comes from Sir Rowan. It’s coming out late because I had hoped Sir Rowan would help me announce that Cold as Snow is finally up on big retail sites–alas! That is not the case. We’re still waiting on that front. But in the meantime, you can still find Cold as Snow on my site, and you can enjoy here a snippet from Sir Rowan’s side story, A Tale of Rowan and Daisy. Enjoy! –Elle

I am not, of course, a poet, nor do I aspire to follow in the footsteps of storytellers of old. Usually, I satisfy myself merely with quoting their work. However, the lady alchemist known as Red has suggested that I collect my notes regarding this tale, and I have always found it prudent to follow the advice of those who wield poisons and science.

She also informed me that the tale does not begin where I thought it would—namely, high on a mountain, in an old snow-blown stone keep, where I first saw my love and nearly fell off my horse. Apparently I am required to give more background leading up to that inciting moment.

I suppose it would be difficult to explain the other knights without backstory. Not that they matter very much. But now Miss Red is frowning at me.

Well, a knight strives always to rise to the occasion. Enclosed here is a complete reproduction of my notes from the time period in question (and not a few additions, but I suppose we’ll get to those later).

As many more wise than I have said, Once upon a time . . .

That’s it from Sir Rowan for now! If you’d like to read the rest of the story he’s alluding to, you can find it in the newsletter subscribers-only section of my website (I’ll be emailing out a reminder of the password later this week, don’t worry). However, it’s recommended that you read Cold as Snow first. That novel will be up on all major book sites soon, I promise! And in the meantime, if you don’t want to wait, you can find it on my website at https://ellehartford.com/product/shop-snow-ebook/.
