Happy October! It’s Halloween season!

Around here, October is also a super busy season. Now that summer’s heat has finally departed, events and chores and work are filling up the calendar. How’s a person supposed to fit in picking apples, carving pumpkins, and solving corn mazes? Not to mention, you know, writing short stories. And queries. And a blog. 😀

Well, one thing I’ve been doing a lot lately to ease the strain is multi-tasking. While I work, I often have podcasts playing in the background. Most aren’t all that spooky, but I do have some October favorites! In honor of the season, here are som recommendations — in no particular order:

Sinisterhood

I recently discovered this podcast and have been working my way through their (massive) backlog. The episodes tend to be an hour or more. They cover all kinds of true crime, cults, and paranormal activity with in-depth research and some much-needed humor. You can find their playlist and more info here.

Morbid

Much like Sinisterhood, this podcast features two hosts talking about true crime and scary stories, usually for an hour or so. They also have a huge backlog, and so far I think they’re a little darker than Sinisterhood — but still funny, too. Find them here.

Suspect

Another true crime podcast — but this one is a short series focused on one particular crime. And the story is based in Seattle! It starts off with a Halloween party and from there it dives into injustice and confusion. The final episodes haven’t aired yet, but it’s been an interesting story so far. Find it here. (Wondery, the folks who run this podcast, also have a bunch of other true crime podcasts if you’re interested!)

Stuff You Missed in History Class

I feel like I talk about this podcast all the time! Episodes are usually under an hour and they cover some really interesting topics from history. Every October they focus on spooky or occult tales. Check out previous episodes and new ones here!

The Classic Tales

This is another of my favorite, longstanding podcasts. A professional audiobook narrator reads short stories and novels from the public domain. He usually focuses on ghost stories and mysteries during October, and even if not, there are some great classic mysteries in his archive! Find them here.

Happy podcasting, and enjoy the season!
